2020-12-29

56 projects worth over UAH 535 million have been selected and will be recommended for funding in 2021. The relevant decision was made by the Competition Commission for the selection of regional development projects that can be implemented at the expense of a resource transferred to the state budget from the EU.

“This year, the largest number of regional development projects related to tourism and innovation economy was submitted. During the selection, experts and the Competition Commission paid attention, first of all, to the complexity of projects, their socio-economic effect for cities and regions, as well as the applicant’s ability to support the project in the future,” said Minister for Territories and Communities Development Oleksii Chernyshov who is the chairman of the Competition Commission.

This is the second competitive selection of projects that can be implemented at the expense of the state budget received from the EU. Next year, UAH 551.6 million is envisaged for the implementation of these projects.

Among the key changes in the second competitive selection is the increase of regional development programs from 5 to 7, as well as the expanded range of applicants. This year, for the first time, regional development agencies and local governments, including those that are centers of newly formed communities, were able to independently apply for participation in the competitive selection.

Admission of documents for competitive selection lasted from September 3 to November 3, 2020. Applicants from all regions of Ukraine submitted 739 projects totaling UAH 8.4 billion under the following regional development programs:

  • innovative economy and investments;
  • rural development;
  • tourism development;
  • human potential development;
  • support for the development of depressed areas;
  • effective regional development management;
  • all-Ukrainian solidarity.

Most projects were received under the programs: “Tourism Development” – 219, “Innovative Economy and Investment” – 137 and “Support for the Development of Depressed Areas” – 106.

Leaders in the number of submitted projects are Lviv region – 68 and Odesa region – 54. Among the central executive bodies the most active was the Ministry of Education and Science.

It will be recalled that the first competitive selection took place in 2017-2018 and based on its results, 70 projects in 5 areas worth over UAH 616 million were selected.
